The White House said today, Saturday, that US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamel Harris are receiving updates on the new strain of the Corona virus, Omicron, after detecting infections in Britain, Germany and Italy.
"We don't know much about this strain other than that it is of great concern, and it appears to be spreading rapidly," Biden, who is spending Thanksgiving holiday with his family in Nantucket, Massachusetts, told reporters Friday.
Asked about the possibility of additional travel restrictions, Harris told reporters today that the administration would move "incrementally."
"We have now done what we believe is necessary," she added.
The White House said that senior health officials and the COVID-19 task force are monitoring developments around the Omicron strain, and are in regular contact with health officials around the world.
