Chinese military will build a base in Tajikistan
🇨🇳🇹🇯 Chinese military will now appear in Tajikistan
The government of Tajikistan has approved a project to build a PLA military base in the country.
The base will be built on the border with Afghanistan in the Wakhan Valley of the Ishkoshim region (somewhere in the area of the red line).
It is also reported that Tajikistan has proposed transferring an already existing Chinese military base to Beijing under full control and waiving any future rent in exchange for military assistance from China, citing a communication sent by the Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe to the Tajik Foreign Ministry.
The project will cost $ 10 million. It is not yet clear what forces the Chinese will deploy there, but some sources say several hundred soldiers with light armored vehicles can be deployed there.
The Chinese side does not confirm the version of the military base and insists that in the fall of 2016 an agreement was signed between the governments of the two countries on the construction of training centers, border outposts and checkpoints on the Tajik-Afghan border. The Chinese side was engaged in the implementation of the projects, which is the reason for the presence of PLA military personnel in the Murghab region.
On the one hand, China helps with the defense of Tajikistan's borders, on the other hand, it protects its investments in Tajikistan (these are not only loans and economic projects, but also the transport corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a railway project from China to 🇮🇷 Iran through Tajikistan and Afghanistan) in case the 🏳 Taliban attack Tajikistan. In general, the emergence of a Chinese military base means that China will continue to increase its influence in Central Asia.
