DEATH TOLL rises to at least 33 in CATACLYSMIC German floods (Video)

Heavy floodwaters have ripped through Germany with police reporting at least 33 deaths; dozens more are missing, while parts of Belgium and Netherlands have also been devastated.

Record rainfall on Thursday in Germany caused rivers to burst their banks and turned streets into raging torrents – sweeping away vehicles, with buildings collapsing.

A state of emergency was declared in the Eifel region, near Cologne, after roads turned to waterways and cut off villages.

The authorities say 70 people are still missing, with unconfirmed reports putting the death toll closer to 33 – two firefighters are said to be among those who have died.
