As the Alpha TV channel reports, after the completion of the deal on French fighters, our country is moving to the next phase of the arms program for the national air force. According to the source, the Ministry of Defense of our country plans to speed up the procedure for the acquisition of American fifth-generation F-35 aircraft.
In this regard, the possibility of partial acquisition of the F35 aircraft already in service is being considered.
Minister of National Defense Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos expressed confidence that the country's armed forces are being rearmed "within the framework of a large and organized plan."
The key tasks on the agenda of the Ministry of Defense are:
• the fastest acquisition of the fifth generation aircraft (F35) in the amount of several units, even used ones.
• completion of the transaction for the acquisition of the latest frigate (Belharra), which will become the flagship of the national navy, in the amount of four units. At the same time, there is an emphasis on the acquisition of the so-called "intermediate solution vessel".
However, the military leadership is reportedly also considering acquiring another (!) Squadron of French Rafale fighters for the national air force.
“Our program, - stressed the minister in an interview with Alpha TV, - has been approved by the Prime Minister and continues. She is very ambitious and goes far into the future. The program covers the entire spectrum of the Armed Forces and all combat arms. It includes not only the acquisition of new systems, such as the Rafale aircraft, but also the modernization of existing systems, which is also very important. "
