NATO has received Russia’s proposals on security guarantees

⚡️NATO has received Russia’s proposals on security guarantees but believes that any dialogue should also address the alliance’s concerns and should include European partners such as Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday.

❗️🛡🇷🇺 Russia released its draft agreement on security guarantees with NATO on Friday. Here are the key points:

🔻NATO should commit not to expand further and Ukraine should not join the alliance;

🔻NATO must abandon military activity in Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia;

🔻Russia and countries that were NATO members as of May 27, 1997 should not deploy forces and weapons in other European countries, not counting exceptional cases (to eliminate a threat to security of one or more parties);

🔻Russia and NATO should agree not to deploy intermediate and short-range missiles in areas from where they can hit each other’s territory;

🔻“Hotlines" should be created to maintain emergency contacts and everything must be done to avoid conditions or situations that pose or could be perceived as a threat to the national security of other parties;

🔻Russia suggests NATO confirm that sides do not view each other as adversaries and restraint must be exercised during military drills to reduce tensions;

🔻The NATO-Russia Council should be involved in resolving disputes.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇸 According to Russia’s draft proposals on security guarantees with NATO and the US:

🔻the US should commit to ruling out further expansion of NATO to the east and refuse to admit ex-Soviet countries into the alliance;

🔻Russia and the US should refrain from flying nuclear and non-nuclear heavy bombers outside their airspace, from deploying warships outside national waters whence they can reach targets on each other's territory, and work on mechanisms to prevent dangerous military activities at sea and in the air;

🔻Russia and the US should commit to not deploying INF-banned missiles in areas from whence they can reach targets on each other's territory;

🔻Russia and the US should commit to not deploying intermediate and short-range missiles outside their national territory.
