Sea of Japan Oil leak as Freighter Splits in Two

❗️Sea of Japan Oil leak as Freighter Splits in Two!

Japanese authorities are trying to contain oil leaking into the sea, after a cargo vessel ran aground early Thursday. The Panamanian-flagged freighter, Crimson Polaris, ran into trouble near Hachinohe port, located on the northern tip of Honshu.

The captain of the ship dropped anchor around 4km off the coast due to dire weather conditions. However, the hull later cracked and eventually split in two.

The oil slick is reportedly covering around 5-square-kilometers of sea, but it hasn't reached shore. All 21 crew members have been rescued.
