On October 1, at Lakenheath airbase (UK), a ceremony was held to create the 495th Fighter Squadron, which will receive the first F-35A aircraft by the end of 2021.

The new unit became part of the 48th Task Force of the 48th Fighter Wing of the US Air Force in the European and African zones.

The squadron will reach full combat readiness in 2022, with a total of 27 aircraft and 60 personnel.
